Latvia is one of to new EU countries that joined on the May 1, 2004 to already existing fifteen European Union partnercountries. During the elections about joining EU inhabitants of Liepaja were one of the most active in Latvia. About 76.9% of Liepaja inhabitants took part in elections.
From 2004 in Latvia there are available following EU funds: European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), European Social Fund (ESF), European Agricultural Guidance and Guarantee Fund (EAGGF - Guidance Section), Financial Instrument for Fisheries Guidance (FIFG) and Cohesion Fund.
