3. Folklore group "Atštaukas"
In 1995, 12 actresses of the Liepāja Theatre decided to delight their colleagues with folk songs at the end of the season celebration. It was Midsummer time. They liked the result and decided to stick together in the future, for Latvian traditional celebrations follow each other throughout the year.
The members of the group come from all regions of Latvia, which is why they sing folk songs from different regions. Since the folklore group sings at all kinds of celebrations, it is typical for them to perform songs that make both the singers and audience dance along. Latvians have always honoured folk festivals and traditions.
The group has prepared several programmes to celebrate the Summer Solstice, Harvest Festival, National Self-Consciousness Day, Christmas, Easter and Mother's Day. The ensemble's repertoire also includes songs for baptisms, weddings, funerals and other traditions.
