Liepāja Concert Hall “Great Amber”

The dream of having a roomy and spacious concert hall in Liepāja has been nurtured for almost a century and was finally brought to life at the end of 2015. The “Great Amber” Concert Hall is a regional centre for culture and events, home to the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra, the Liepāja High School of Music, Art and Design, as well as the event producers and managing authority of the building itself – SIA “Lielais Dzintars”, Ltd.

The Great Amber covers an area of 14'126 m² over eight floors. It comprises three concert halls – the Great Hall with 1000 seats, the Chamber Hall with 200 seats and the Liepāja Theatre Small Hall or Experimental Stage with 120 seats, complemented by the Civita Nova Art Space on the ground floor, the Hall of Mirrors on the 6th floor, as well as the TINTO café and restaurant.

The architectural concept of the outstanding Austrian architect, Prof. Volker Giencke, was influenced not only by the functional significance of the building as a music and art centre, but also by the symbol of Liepāja - amber – found along the coast of Latvia and the Baltic Sea. The architecture of the building is like music frozen in time and amber.

The acoustics and lighting of the concert hall were designed by world leaders in their field: prof. Karlheinz Müller (Müller-BBM, Germany) and Prof. Christian Bartenbach, the founder of the Bartenbach-Bartenbach Group.

The special appearance, unique interior layout and excellent acoustics of the Great Amber Concert Hall make it certain that a visit to this powerful cultural centre for the entire Baltic Sea region will become an unforgettable experience for every guest.
