Registration of death

In case of death:

  • Fact of death must be certified and registered,
  • Death certificate must be received.
  • The deceased must be buried.

The fact of death and a death certificate is issued by a family doctor or a medical institution.

Civil registry must be notified about the fact of death after reception of medical certificate on the cause of death.

A person, who informs the registry about the fact of death, must present an identification document and submit:

  • A personal identification document of the deceased (passport and ID card, if both documents are issued),
  • Medical certificate on determination of death or any other document that confirms the fact of death.

Appropriate authorities must be notified about the fact of death no later than in time of six days from the day of death or discovery of the deceased.

Reception of death certificate

Civil registry issues the death certificate on the day of death registration.

Death certificate is required for inheritance settlement, to receive a burial place in cemetery, and in other cases.

Death certificate is issued free of cost.
