6. Women's choir "Aija"

Liepāja Folk Art and Culture Centre Women's Choir "Aija" was founded in 1992 under the direction of conductor Gunta Vite. The choir's repertoire is wide and varied - from Renaissance masterpieces to contemporary scores by modern composers.

The choir has established good cooperation with composers such as Agris Engelmanis, Selga Mence, Romualds Kalsons and Andris Kontauts. The programmes include a great variety of songs from the women's and men's choir reunions, new productions - songs by Latvian and Liepāja composers and also a series of sacred music for charity concerts in Latvian churches.

Since 1996, the women's choir Aija has participated in more than 20 international choir competitions (Italy, France, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Spain, Lithuania, Hungary, etc.) winning several prizes and awards. Two music albums by the women's choir "Aija" have been released as well.
